Cataract Refractive Audit
As part of good medical practise it is recommended that ophthalmologists (like all doctors) collect outcome data reflecting their work. After your surgery Mr Shuttleworth therefore requests, from your optometrist / optician, the results (the lens strength) of any new glasses that you may require following your surgery so that he can assess and reflect upon the choice of lens power that was used during your surgery.

Please note - some local surgeons and organisations in Swansea have arrangements in place to pay optometrists / opticians for post-operative refractive results (spectacle prescriptions). Such arrangements undermine the transparency and independence of professional healthcare provider relationships / behaviours and mean that a surgeon to whom you may otherwise be referred, might have, indirectly or otherwise, a financial arrangement in place with the referrer.
Mr Shuttleworth stresses that he does NOT have ANY such arrangement in place with ANY optometrist / optician and intends to maintain his professional independence / integrity in this manner.
